We're working away furiously

While we love the idea of National Novel Writing Month, we're pretty fed up with what the organization behind it is doing. We're currently actively developing an alternative site, focused on the values and community focus that made NaNoWriMo great, but without the negative sides the organization has brought to the table.

When will this be ready?

We expect to open signups by the end of September 2024, at the latest, to allow people a month to get used to the platform and find any remaining serious bugs before our first challenge begins in November 2024. Our hope is to finish even sooner, to give some time to accept feature requests from the community.

Is there an official hashtag for social media?

We're going with #WritingMonth, unless we hear some serious feedback that suggests something else.

How do I get updates about the project?

Currently, your best bet is to follow Benjamin Hollon's fediverse account. We'll figure out better methods as the project progresses.

Do I have to write 50,000 words?

The current plan is to have a number of main goal categories, plus the ability to set a custom goal. Currently, we're envisioning:
